It is Cold, and Windy!

Relationships can be a fickle thing, however, it's nothing compared to the flightiness of the weather in New Orleans.

It is hot, and humid!

I'm not complaining... however. It's close to 9:00pm, I just returned from an event at Ogden (Southern Museum of Art). They had a performance by Steve Gardner and Jake Leg Stompers. Two great bands combined for one performance. I'll be heading out soon to hang with the band. But, before I do, I'm almost tempted to change into shorts! Yes, it is that warm here...

It's Raining

And, raining, and, raining, and, raining, and raining. I don't think I've every experienced this before... the situation where rain continues falling at such a consistent rate. it started some hours before, I think, around 2:00am. And since, has continued to rain, and rain, and rain.

I'm still in New Orleans. What a colorful place this is. People are so warm and diverse. It really is like it's not of the States (architecturally, they way of life for so many of the people, and the various languages you hear floating through the air.)... The rain, amazingly, just subsided...

As per rebuild of the city. Depending on what parts you visit, things are either wonderful, or utterly terrible. Where I rent -the French Quarter (which actually, should be called Spanish Quarter, as most of the architecture is in fact Spanish)- not much was effected, and everything is back to, or close to, the pace of the New Orleanian. This all changes as you move out to the various Wards. I visited a family last week who'd lost everything, and to this day, are still trying to finish rebuilding. They are in high spirits. Although, with the amount of bureaucracy they still find themselves dealing with, days can sometimes be low. A day seems not to go by that the wife doesn't go without finding at least several tears.

Back in the States

Well, after several weeks of blog neglect, I've returned. Not only have I returned to this blog, I've also returned to the states. My time in Guatemala was enjoyable, if not a little rushed. There was, however, something strange floating through the air. Within my third day, I developed a cold that did not clear until my return to the states. Some of you might be thinking that I got what so many consider the "travelers cold". It's not a bad assumption, although, in this case, inaccurate. I am unsure of all the contributing factors (fatigue, disgusting living situation for the first week and a half, airborne particles) but whatever it was, I was sick. This is the dry season for Guatemala, and they are burning their sugar cane. So, it's possible my body was fighting some allergen. Whatever the reason, I fought a cold that has lingered with me even to this day (flem)... But, I did no allow that to hamper my travels, nor did it hinder my time of volunteering.

The children were fun, and were quite pleased to have seen me.

For the next month, I'll be in New Orleans. Attempting to complete my writing...
