Difficulties of being out of touch
"Sheer astonishment" is the first and really only way to describe my senses when I learned of the devastation in the states. For those of you who have friends and family living in the affected areas, I send you my genuine sympathies and concern. Being isolated from the events of the states is in many ways invigorating, but when events like this occur, a sense of helplessness and desire to reach out develops within me.
I initially learned of this disaster yesterday, from a friend who sent a general e-mail regarding the situation; and to inform us that she was ok. Shocked, I went onto NYTimes.com where I skimmed the headlines. Out of Colons (remember, I was paying $4 an hour for internet) I had to discontinue my use of the net. Quickly, I went out in search of an international paper... No luck. I did however find a TV with cable. I can't believe whats currently unfolding in New Orleans!
